Yarra Riverkeepers Win the Premier’s Sustainability Award
The Yarra Riverkeeper Association and Cleanwater Group have won the Environmental Protection category of the Premier’s Sustainability Awards 2020 and the prestigious Premier's Recognition Award.
We are honoured to announce that the Yarra Riverkeeper Association and Cleanwater Group have won the Environmental Protection category of the Premier’s Sustainability Awards 2020 and the prestigious Premier’s Recognition Award for our Litter and Polystyrene Pollution in the Yarra project.
Recognising the negative impact of litter and polystyrene pollution on the health of the Yarra River, we partnered with Cleanwater Group to negate these impacts.
By identifying sources of polystyrene and litter pollution, mapping the hot spots and facilitating Yarra Blitz clean-up days, the initiative engaged and educated the public and developed recommendations to prevent future pollution.
Thanks to the dedication and support of staff, partners, volunteers and the community our have four large-scale Yarra Blitz community clean-up events in 2019 removed 17,500kg of vacuumed waste and 665kg of community collected waste.
