Regenerating the Yarra for a better future!

Oh, our Yarra!

The River of Mists, which starts all the way up in Mount Baw Baw, going for 242km to finish at our Bay. Sounds magic, right?

Sadly, our beautiful Yarra needs our help, and yes, that includes you!

From habitat fragmentation to water pollution, this magnificent ecological asset that crosses all over Melbourne is suffering. But the Yarra Riverkeeper Association is here to help!

For the next 2.5 years, we will start our new portfolio of projects to go with our vision for a healthy, protected and loved Yarra. We have engaged with local ecologists, nurseries, community groups, councils, organisations, and more, to get our initial plan rolling.

Lots of great things will happen in the years to come! From professional restoration of habitat pockets along the Yarra, to support and assistance of the fantastic work that our community groups bring to our River.

At the moment, we have 10 sites, including a diversity of goals, such as community engagement, events, education, etc. This will be achieved through ecological planning, planting, weeding, and further maintenance in collaboration with local groups.

We hope this is just the beginning of a brighter future for our Yarra.

Because we know our communities are part of this journey with us, we want this project to include you!

That’s why, at the end of 2020 we asked the Melbourne community to submit their insights and suggested sites for this project.
