Margie has spent most of her career as an environmental lawyer working to protect
Victoria’s special places including the Yarra Birrarung. She is passionate about conservation
and building strong organisations. She has extensive experience as an inhouse lawyer in
the private and public sectors and was named in the Top 50 Victorian public sector women
in 2019.
As well as her experience as a senior executive, she has served on the boards of not for
profits and has reformed their approach to risk management and corporate governance to
help them deliver their missions. The work of The Yarra Riverkeeper Association draws on
her legal, governance and management skills as well as her commitment to protecting the
environment. The love of the Yarra Birrarung was developed first as a child playing on the
banks of Gardiner’s Creek- a tributary and then as a rower with early mornings spent in the
mists of the river whose calmness and silence captured her heart.
