Likes: Walking and running in nature, stopping to notice the busy lives of the “more-than-human” world and…cake!

Dislikes: Pollution, waste, irresponsible uses of plastic

Favourite Animal in the Yarra Catchment: I’m always excited to find Caddisfly larvae in the river – you might mistake them for sticks in the mud but if you look closely their heads will pop out to say “hello”

About

Emma is an educator with a deep-rooted passion for ecology and the natural world. With a
background in conservation genetics, she has explored the intricacies of plant life—from
running genetic experiments on agricultural weeds and the native pepper berry to working as a
botanist in the western grasslands of Victoria. Her work has spanned research, fieldwork, and
public education. Today, Emma is driven by a desire to help people find meaningful ways to
relate to nature—especially to the incredible Birrarung (Yarra River), whose cultural and
ecological stories continue to inspire her work.
